Songs of extinction is a project that speaks to the world about the world, hovering between the rediscovery of a landscape where man is only passing through and leaves no trace, and a landscape where man feeds off the earth and leaves ashes behind him defacing, deforesting, and endangering delicate but essential ecosystems. I am collaborating with Rainforest Connection, a nonprofit who utilizes acoustic technology to protect threatened ecosystems from illegal activities (like illegal logging which is the 2nd leading cause of climate change), and monitor biodiversity around the world.
The idea is to use this soundscape in dialogue with a body investigating the animals and ecosystems they inhabit, immersed in video projections that are part of my personal memory of these habitats.

MAN

Are we capable of inhabiting our emotions to the core, returning them through the body and creating a memory of them? How far can human beings go in the evolution of emotions? How many different forms can it take? How does it change the way it perceives itself and the space around it?

Inspired by Tiffany Watt Smith's Atlas of Emotions, the project is to create an archive of postures, gestures and movements that tell the story of emotions as they become, transform, change rhythm and color. Aware of the impossibility of doing an immediate and exhaustive work, I decided to draw different chapters within such vastness. The first episode of this research is devoted to what in Hindi is called MAN (pronounced mun, short for manorath, literally want or will). The atlas author defines this emotion as something "waiting to take the form of a definite desire, and when it does it carries with it a strange lucidity. Halfway between the head and the heart. The man is a visceral need, hardened by the knowledge that that desire reflects our most authentic selves." The man is something that cannot be negotiated with, "no one can question someone else's man," it is an irrepressible and rationally inexplicable calling. Have you ever felt an irresistible pull toward something without being able to explain why?

Natuur is a liquid territory in which two bodies live and a large landscape to inhabit, in which monsters and alchemical symbols meet and collide and mirror each other in a kind of virtuous bestiary of the Human. The research investigates the space created in the relationship between the two performers in the breakdown of the poses, attitudes, and emblematic posture of the characters in Bosh's The Garden of Delights, giving the bodies the rhythm that is rendered in the painting by the use of color and actions. The major interest is in the space that the two bodies together modify through the accumulation of increasingly complex phrasing. This also happens with the music: the original composition is played live and involves musicians engaged in playing multiple instruments, creating a complex polyrhythmic interplay.
The landscape then becomes a territory of encounter, permeability, fusion and continuous dialogue between dance and sound composition, where bodies become instruments and where music becomes a tangible atmosphere.

LAKOTA

Letting myself being leaded by the words and studies of Joseph Campbell, one of the biggest researchers of compared mythology and religions, I want to deal with the vision of myth getting back the duality of dream-vision/reality in order to transform and bring it back to the basics: “dreams open a door on mythology because myths and dreams are made of the same nature. Like dreams myths emerge from an interior world unknown to the awareness of wakefulness. This is what happens for life itself.”
My interest addresses to the world of myth, to the most antique way of thinking, that includes and goes beyond every form of imagination and still it is able to explain reality reaching directly the awareness of man.

the sky enveloped
by the solar wind
dances
and free visions
shaped by the bodies

we glimpse the Milky Way
from the train that crosses the northern snow where the cold bites the skin
and the eyes of a moose steal the breath

eagles turn in circle over peaks:
their song reawakens valleys I bring their flight
on my cape of feathers

when grounding my roots
inside the desert sand I feel
joined to the sparkle of the air,
I feel part of the joy of universe that renews constantly,
it limits the wounds of the beasts that damage and devour it.
