PETT | CLAUSEN-KNIGHT
ASSOCIATED ARTIST 2023
James and Travis began their artistic collaboration while working as dancers for the Wayne McGregor Company (2013-2019).
The duo has had the privilege of performing around the world at some of the most prestigious theatres, including the Palais Garnier with the Paris Opera Ballet, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow and Sadler's Wells Theatre in London.
Draft Works by the Royal Ballet, was the first chorographic platform where they shared the duet Splinter The Noise.
In 2019, they became associate artists of Fabula Collective, with whom they have created numerous choreographies, including Elevation.
Within a year of the premiere, their works. both collective and independent, were taken on tour around the world to theatres in Hong Kong. Korea, Thailand, Japan, Italy, Germany and the UK and have received several international choreographic awards.
Since 2021, they have been on an independent creative path with the duo, Pett | Clausen-Knight, of which Imago is the first creation.

Time, memory and connection are explored to bring a focus on how life is left in a state of impermanence. The work itself is a visual representation of how memory passes through us, or how the most significant moments graze the mind. On stage a trio of two men and a woman whose memories collide and overlap in space to create an endless stream of memories in which each dancer represents moments of the self.

What does it mean to move forward in life? How can fear and trauma affect our will to move forward? Where sorrow meets joy, exile meets return, decay meets growth. Silence came between. A journey in movement exploring the nature of absence and our transition from endings to beginnings.
-- In the absence is an exploration on the nature of moving forward, the concept of evolving past an event and the boundaries created in that transition.
The piece explores the journey of two characters each of whom struggles in the shared experience of letting go and the universal fear of acceptance.
Reflection, struggle and longing to let go are the central themes explored through the dancers movements and the evocative set filled with thousands of small reflective confetti. The stage floor creates a vast mirrored surface where the dancers move, shift and even dishevel the materials. This powerful visual effect provokes the constant flux of the human mind as we process the memories of our past. The shifting nature of the choreography is a visual meditation on how our experiences can shape the choices we make to move forward.
What emerges from what was buried gives way to something new, new life, like autumn in the woods.
