PIETRO MARULLO
ASSOCIATED ARTIST 2022
Pietro Marullo is a director, writer, visual artist and choreographer. His artistic work is on the borderline between theatre and visual arts, dance, video and sound installation. Since 2017, he has been an associate artist at the Oriente Occidente Festival in Rovereto (Italy), since 2019 he has been associated with the international Asian platform CROSSING THE SEA and since 2020 with the Halles de Schaerbeek in Brussels. From 2022, he is an associate artist of DANCEHAUSpiù in Milan.
Born in 1985 in Naples, where he attended the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters at the University FedericolIe and the International Center for Actor Research (ICRA Project). Between 2001 and 2007, he became interested in physical and visual theatre, movement and mask: research that he developed through international internships directed by Marise Flach, (Milan, Piccolo Teatro), by Thomas Leabahrt (Paris, Seahorse Theatre), and by Corinne Soume (London, Théâtre de l'Ange Fou). In 2008, he moved to Brussels to study directing at the Institut National Supérieur des Arts de la Scène (INSAS).

There are words that have no flavor and have lost their taste. One of them is definitely the word " brotherhood." In my mouth, this sound can no longer ignite imaginations. But then one day, in a foreign land, a new sound falls into your ear, which suddenly has the power to make you feel again that ancient momentum, that oceanic feeling of the world. HERMANDAD.
A beautiful word, with an initial acca that gives it just the right breath of life to leap over the three vowels of which it is composed. It comes from the Latin /germanus/ Sprout. We use it to denote, regardless of gender, the bonds of fraternity and sisterhood.
This play comes from this lack of words. From this no longer knowing how to name that 'thing' and that need to be together. What is the Other and what am I to the other when we are beyond relationships of conflict and profit?
