Susanna Beltrami’s creation draws inspiration from the novel by Josephine Hart and the film directed by Louis Malle.

The story unfolds around a man torn between desire, guilt, a forbidden passion, and the loss of his son. From the mists of another world the past reemerges: the dead son returns, deeply shaken by the betrayal of his father and the woman he believed to be his “forever.”

Past and present intertwine while dance constructs a psychoanalytic drama with a strong cinematic imprint where movement and imagery mirror an emotional state. The video score, by Salvatore Lazzaro, multiplies the levels of perception of the characters’ inner worlds, merging the bodies with their projection into a single, powerful vision of trauma.

“Il Danno” is a Greek tragedy in contemporary attire, where the protagonists are driven by inner forces they cannot control, leading them inevitably toward catastrophe. Primal passions, unresolved traumas and violation of family taboos do not belong solely to ancient myths. The Greek tragedy, reinterpreted through the lens of psychoanalysis, tells us that these dark forces continue to live beneath the skin of the modern man, ready to shatter his fragile armor of rationality and control.

A story steeped in madness, impulses, and death, where the main characters are, at once, both victims and executioners.
